The Language management screen (menu Administration › Appearance and languages › Localization) chooses the languages offered in Portail ZAPP and the instance's default language. It is reserved for Administrators.
What languages control
- Active languages are offered to everyone in the language selector and in their preferences, and are used by the translation screens (labels, menus, entered content).
- The default language is the language of people who have not chosen one, and the fallback language: a text not translated into the reader's language is shown in the default language.
The language list
The table shows the languages known to Portail ZAPP, with their Code, Name and Status: Default, Active or Inactive. Row buttons:
- Activate for an inactive language;
- Set default to make an active language the default one;
- Deactivate to remove an active language.
The default language cannot be deactivated: first choose another default language. When the Data grids module is installed, the list is a grid: select a row, then use the Activate, Deactivate and Set default buttons of the toolbar.
Add language asks for a Code (the list suggests the known codes and fills in the name) and a Name. The language is created, or renamed if it already exists, and activated. A language whose code is not in the suggested list appears at the end of the table.
Regional formats
The Regional formats column gives the culture used for a language's dates, times, numbers and percentages, for example en-GB for British English or en-US for American English. Empty means the language code's own culture. Type the value in the row's field, then Save; in the grid, select the row and use the Regional formats button of the toolbar. An unknown culture is refused with a message. A language that was never activated has no setting yet: activate it first.
Missing translations
The Missing translations button lists the content you entered (catalog, forms, workflow…) that lacks a translation in an active language, grouped by source: each row gives the Entity, the Missing languages and, when possible, an Edit button that opens the screen where you complete it. A reader whose language is missing sees the fallback value.
Good to know
- Portail ZAPP ships translated into French, English and Spanish. Another activated language is shown in the default language until its texts are translated: import its translations from the Translations screen (see "Editing translations").
- Deactivating a language does not delete its translations: activating it again brings them back. People who had chosen it see the default language.
