Editing translations

The Translations screen (menu Administration › Appearance and languages › Translations) edits the labels of the Portail ZAPP interface — buttons, titles, messages — language by language. It is reserved for Administrators.

Each label is identified by a Key (for example common.save) and has a Value per language. Content you enter yourself (catalog, forms, menu entries…) is translated in its own screens, not here.

Choosing the language

The buttons at the top of the screen carry the code of each active language: click a code to display and edit the labels of that language.

Editing a label

Without the Data grids module:

  • find the key in the table, change the Value, then Save;
  • to add a key, type the Key and the Value above the table, then + Add;
  • Delete (after confirmation) removes the value for this language.

With the Data grids module, the list is a grid: edit the value of a row, add or delete a row from the toolbar. The key of an existing row cannot be changed. The Coverage column shows in green the languages that have a value for the key and in red those where it is missing; the Missing in other languages switch keeps only the keys missing in at least one active language.

Export and import

  • Export JSON downloads the labels of the displayed language.
  • Import JSON loads a file of the form { "key": "value", … } into the displayed language: each key of the file is added or replaced, the others do not change.

This is the simplest way to translate a new language: export an existing language, translate the values, activate the language (see "Managing languages"), display it, then import the file.

Good to know

  • A value you changed is kept when Portail ZAPP is updated: updates only add new keys and only correct values still at their original text.
  • Deleting the value of a key shipped with Portail ZAPP restores its original text at the next application restart.
  • A key with no value in the reader's language is shown in the instance's default language.
  • The browser keeps the labels in memory: a change shows from the second page load onwards.
