Every notification from Portail ZAPP goes through a queue before leaving. Two screens reserved for Administrators let you send one by hand and watch deliveries.
Send a notification
The Send a notification screen (menu Administration › Instance and operations › Notifications › Send notification):
- Recipients: search accounts by name or email; several are possible.
- Template key: pick the message template to send.
- Template variables (optional): one variable per line, as
name=value(for exampleTitle=Planned network outage), using the names found in the template. A template field without a value stays empty; a malformed line is refused and nothing is sent. - Channels: all are ticked by default. Each recipient only receives on the channels they enabled in their preferences (by default, the application and email), and never on a channel turned off in the notification configuration.
- Send. The message Notification sent. confirms queuing, not delivery.
The notification queue
The Notification queue screen (menu Administration › Instance and operations › Notifications › Notification queue) lists deliveries, one row per recipient and per channel: Created, Recipient, Channel, Subject, Status, Attempts and Error.
- View content (eye icon) shows the recipient, the status, the subject and the Body of the message, along with any error;
- Resend (circular arrow) puts an unsent notification back to pending, with its attempt counter reset to zero;
- the bin deletes the row.
When the Data grids module is installed, the list is a grid: select a row, then use the toolbar buttons. Without this module, the All, Pending, Sent and Failed filters sort the list, Total gives the number of rows, and clicking an error opens its Error detail.
Good to know
- A failed delivery is retried automatically; after 3 attempts, it becomes failed.
- A notification also fails, with no further attempt, when the recipient has no address for that channel (for example no mobile number for an SMS).
- Before you Resend failed notifications, fix the cause: channel configuration ("Configure the notification channels") or the recipient's contact details.
